A Thursday Round-Up and changes

Hi, and welcome to The Friday Round-Up on Thursday! It's been a while since the last Round-Up but it is now the summer holidays and (hopefully!) I should have more time to dedicate to The Round-Up!

It is becoming more and more apparent that I am usually quite busy on Fridays and therefore unable to write a Friday Round-Up consistently every week. Therefore The Friday Round-Up will now be changed to: The Round-Up. It will still be weekly and it will still be a catch-up of the latest news but the day of The Round-Up may vary from week to week. However, I will always try and write it towards the end of the week.

Enough of the changes, now onto The Round-Up itself!

In the news this week:

World

AI Weiwei, the artist and activist who was abducted by Chinese authorities in April and sent to an undisclosed location, was released on bail on Wednesday after mounting international pressure. China's most famous artist is now subject to a 12 month gagging order that stops Mr Ai, an outspoken critic of Chinese corruption, from condemning authoritarianism in China.

PRESIDENT Obama has announced that 33,000 troops will be ordered home from Afghanistan by Autumn of next year. President Sarkozy followed suit on Thursday by declaring that the 4,000 French troops currently stationed in Afghanistan would also be pulling out by late next year. The soldiers are expected to return home by September 2012.

UK

A BURGLAR was stabbed to death during an attempted break-in by the householder  in Greater Manchester on Thursday. Two men and a woman were arrested and are being questioned on suspicion of murder.

WIMBLEDON got off to a rainy start as play was suspended on day one on all courts but Centre on Monday 20th June. British number one, Andy Murray, has won the first and second round of the Grand Slam tournament, getting through on straight sets in his second round match.

Also in the news...

J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter book series, unveiled her latest project on Thursday: an interactive website containing 18,000 words of additional notes on the Harry Potter universe that the author was unable to fit into the seven Potter novels.

That's all from The Round-Up this week! Check again next week for the latest news in a bite-size form!

Relaunch of The Friday Round-Up

Hi,

Sorry that The Friday Round-Up has not been updated for a while!

Unfortunately, I am busy packing my room away for the summer holiday today so will not have time to write a Round-Up.

However, with the start of the summer holiday comes more free time and therefore a relaunch of the (hopefully more consistent) Friday Round-Up.

Next week, I am away on Friday so instead there will be a Thursday Round-Up so keep watching the blog for that!

Thank you for your patience and please keep reading the blog!

Round-Up cancelled this week

Hi,

Sorry but the Round-Up is cancelled this week. Strangely, I've been even busier since exams stopped!

After I go home from university for the summer, I will have more free time to dedicate to this blog and to write additional articles.

Thanks for reading,
